Pay Up Sucker

I have loved this saying ever since I saw it tattooed on Jesse James' palm! Well, as you may have guessed, today was our day to pay up. Bill time. Medical copays, credit card, phone, internet...the list goes on.

Today was different though. I took a different approach to paying bills. I prayed first. I asked for God to discipline me, to give me the strength and self control to pay what needs to be paid and not let one slide because "it's really no big deal". I have to say, this was the most pleasant bill paying experience ever. I don't have the money left over to sign up for a yoga class i had hoped for or to take last minute trip to get away or even to buy what I want at the store. Instead, I have just enough to get the groceries we need and put gas in our cars and it feels good.

...Give us this day, our daily bread...

Discipline is good and honoring God with our finances feels good. I am thankful that He is just as concerned with our money as He is with the major problems in our world. I pray today that God will continue to correct and discipline us because without Him, we can go nothing!

No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

First Things First

Thanks to the extreme generosity of a friend a scored a serious deal on a Breast Cancer Pink Kitchen Aid mixer! It even came with a juicer attachment!

First creation with the mixer...Fresh squeezed lemonade! The lemons are extra special because Grandma Judy and Papa Buddy picked them from their tree in California and shipped them to us!

Second creation...Homemade brownies. Any kitchen of mine has never seen such a thing! Boxed mix...never again!

I hope you can smell them! They sure taste good!

Chicken and Lime Soup

Okay, I know, blog post really need photos. We devoured the soup so fast I didn't have a chance to take a picture!
I got this recipe from www.recipezaar.com. It was wonderful but I think more of an appetizer or summer soup. It just wasn't hearty enough for the winter. If you decide to make a winter version I would LOVE to know about it!

2T EVOO
1 onion chopped
Garlic to taste

1 Carton Chicken Broth (4 cups)
1 Rotisserie Chicken, meat removed from the bones

2 Roma tomatoes, chopped
1/4c rough chopped cilantro
juice from one lime
Mix in a bowl and set aside

Saute onion and garlic in oil for 3-5 minutes then add chicken broth. Bring to a boil and add chicken. Simmer partially covered for 20 minutes.
Just before serving add the tomato and cilantro mix, stir and serve immediately.

The lime and cilantro are incredible with bright flavors. This would be a perfect appetizer to a Mexican fiesta or served in the summer with grilled veggies and crusty bread!

If you are anything like me, the pockets of your robe are always full! My name is Brianne, I am married to Mike and together we have 3 children. Living in Tennessee, I wear my robe a lot. It is cold here in the winter! I often reach into my pockets and wonder, "How on earth did that get there" or more often than not, "I have been looking for that!"

The peal and seal strip off of an envelope
15 rubber tires off of the trucks the boys got for Christmas
